Lwandle police registered two counts of murder after two men were gunned down at the corner of Hlathi Drive and Private Road on Thursday 20 August.
Community shaken by Lwandle shooting
A resident who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisals said they were distraught by the incident. They said they had heard several gunshots and, on going outside, saw people standing at the scene.
“The gunshots occurred in my street, Hlathi Drive,” the source related. “I heard them in my sleep! It took a while for me to go out to see what it was all about because I was scared. I didn’t go closer to the scene; I just saw two bodies lying in the street.” They had no idea what the motive was.

Provincial police spokesperson Sgt Wesley Twigg confirmed the incident, saying the circumstances surrounding a shooting on Thursday morning, 20 August, at 05:25, on the corner of Hlathi Drive and Private Road, Lwandle, in which two men, aged 33 and 52, were fatally shot were under investigation.
“Officers responded to a complaint of a shooting and, on arrival on the scene, found one victim who was declared dead on the scene by medical personnel, while the other was transported to a medical facility but declared dead on arrival.”
Police suspect taxi-related motive in Lwandle shooting
He said the motive for the attack was believed to be taxi-related. The suspect(s) fled the scene and had not been arrested.
