Langa police officers are investigating a double murder case, after two people were gunned down at King Langalibalele Drive on Saturday 15 June.
Provincial police spokesperson Sgt Wesley Twigg said police were called to the scene where they found the victims with gunshot wounds to their bodies.
“The circumstances surrounding a shooting incident on Saturday evening at King Langalibalele Drive in Langa, where two adult males were shot and fatally wounded, are under investigation.
“Both victims were declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel. The motive for the attack is yet to be determined,” he said.
Twigg added no arrest had yet been made.
A community leader who spoke on condition of anonymity, for fear of harassment, said crime is gradually escalating in the community. He urged residents to be vigilant.
“I’ve heard about the incident that occurred at King Langalibalele Drive but I can’t tell you what happened. Besides the shooting incident that occurred at King Langalibalele Drive opposite Tigers Place on Saturday, on Sunday morning 16 June there was another incident reported that occurred at Zone 23, where a man was allegedly stabbed to death, but the motive is unknown.
“The killing of people in Langa is becoming a norm. It used to be a quiet place, but now the crime is getting out of hand.”
The leader also highlighted gender-based violence, car hijacking and robbery as cases that are always reported to the police.
He warned parents to look after their children during the school holidays.
