The newly elected Khayelitsha Local Football Association (LFA) committee members have vowed to revive the football structure to be one of the top LFAs in the metro. The five executive members were elected in an Annual General Meeting (AGM) that was held at the offices in Khayelitsha Rugby Stadium on Sunday 28 June.

The newly elected committee has two years in office which is expected to expire in 2028.

Unity and transparency top the agenda

Speaking on behalf of the new committee, Thulani Javu, the treasurer, said their priority is to unite the association. He said they want to bring back the glory days where the association was one of the best in Khayelitsha as a whole.

“We want to ensure that there is transparency in the association whereby all our members are always informed. Also trying to get sponsors for our association and ensure that our playing grounds are up to standard,” said Javu.

Shortage of playing grounds a major concern

He complained about the number of playing grounds, which he explained were insufficient. He stated that out of 34 teams, they have only two playing grounds.

“We have u-10, 12, 14, 16 and the seniors. All of them are depending on these two grounds. We want it to be maintained regularly. We also need the City to come on board to assist us with the maintenance,” he urged.

Tribute tournament to honour fallen heroes

He said they are planning to introduce new tournaments where they will mainly educate the young players about the history of football in Khayelitsha.

“We are planning to have a tribute tournament where we will remember all our fallen football stars from Khayelitsha. Our aim is to keep the children away from the streets. We want them to be more positive than roaming around on the street,” he explained.

Newly elected committee members

The newly elected committee members are Vusumzi Yiba (president), Themba Zitasi (vice president), Xolani Sinyanya (second vice president), Thulani Javu (treasurer) and Ntuthuzelo Vika (secretary).
