Double murder at Enkanini shebeen: Lwandle police hunt for suspects

Lwandle police station spokesperson Sgt Mthokozisi Gama.

Lwandle police are investigating a double murder and attempted murder case after a shooting occurred at a local shebeen at Enkanini informal settlement on Saturday 1 June.

Lwandle police spokesperson Sgt Mthokozisi Gama said the officers are still searching for the suspects involved in the tragic murder of two men on Saturday morning at Enkanini informal settlement.

“It is alleged that a group of men were sitting at the shebeen when six unknown males entered the shebeen and fired multiple shots and injured them. They then left the scene,” he said.

Gama stated that four men were injured and taken to the nearest hospital where one of them died on his arrival.

Discovered

“Later, the officers discovered that there was another man who was shot and killed in the same incident,”

said Gama, adding that there were several cartridges and rounds of ammunition that were found at the scene.

A community leader, who preferred to speak on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisal, said there is a high crime rate in the area.

He added that people are killed every weekend. “We are not safe here. The criminals are doing as they please. The officers are trying so hard to fight crime with the limited resources that they have,” he said.

The leader urged the community to work with the officers to fight crime. “Officers alone cannot fight crime. We need to work together as a community. Or if the community doesn’t trust the officers they can report any wrongdoing to the members of the community policing forum then they forward it to the officers,” he stated.

  • Lwandle police detectives are appealing to anyone who might have information regarding the whereabouts of the suspects to tip-off the Lwandle police station or contact the Crime Stop number 08600 10111.
