Couple Mzi and Asimanye Ndzuzo are enjoying their time at Marina Beach near Muizenberg.

Love was in the air in Cape Town and around the world as many lovers celebrated Valentine’s Day on Monday 14 February.

Valentine’s Day is a global day dedicated at lovers and for showcasing love. As many celebrated the occasion City Vision met up with lovebirds Mzikayise and Asimanye Ndzuzo in Samora Machel.

Mzikayise (40) is a community activist and to him everyday is Valentine’s Day. He says they love and respect each other.

Mzikayise, who is affectionately known as ‘Mzi’, said having Asimanye as his wife is a blessing on its own to him.

The couple met in Samora and started dating in 2012

“I started dating Asimanye in September 2012 and she quickly moved in and we stayed together. In 2015 we were blessed with a son and we named him Owethu. In 2019 we had our second born, a girl and we named her Enzokuhle. We got married in 2020,” said Mzi.

He confessed that along their journey there were some hindrances like any couple. However, he said there was no way that he could lose the mother of his children.

Mzi, who is originally from Ngqamakhwe in the Eastern Cape, described his wife as a generous person.

“My wife made me who I am today. She understands me very well. She is a very straightforward person. She completes me. Even though we have nothing but we do help people. She is the only person that I can die for,” he laughed.

Mzi said they spent Valentine’s Day at Marina Beach in Muizenberg.

Asimanye (27) stated that there is nothing more important in love than to see or feel that you are accepted. “I met my husband at a young age. I didn’t think that one day I’d be his wife. But as time went on something kept growing inside me. Even when he proposed to me I didn’t think twice – I said ‘yes’,” said Asimanye.

She said it wasn’t difficult for her to adjust to their marriage because she knew her husband.

“We’ve been together for seven years before we got married. We took marriage as a continuation. And the only difference now is that we are together formally,” she giggled.

Asimanye, who is originally from Engcobo also in the Eastern Cape, described her husband as a nice person. “He is a good father to his children. A good husband. We spoil each other every time we have a chance. He is so romantic and a hard worker,” she said.

When the City Vision asked her what Valentine’s Day meant to her, she said it is about sharing love and being honest with one another. She advised other couples to be open to each other and set their goals.

“You need to have direction of where you are going. And whatever you planning must be implemented. The purpose of love is to build each other and stop demanding,” she concluded.
