Nyanga community stakeholders officially said their goodbyes to the outgoing local police station commander Brig Vuyisile Ncata on Saturday 25 June.
The send-off ceremony was at Linge Primary School.
Speakers described him as a dedicated member of the police.
Ncata has been promoted to a Maj-Gen and will be heading to the Nelson Mandela Bay municipality in Gqeberha, where he will be the District Commissioner.
Nyanga Community Policing Forum chair Martin Makasi described Ncata as a superb cadre. He said he loves his job.
Makasi stated that Ncata’s relocation to the Eastern Cape is not only a loss to the station, but to the community at large.
“He was passionate about his job. He would answer his phone even if it is at midnight and respond to the incident,” said Makasi.
He stated that he deserved the farewell.
“It is not a norm in Nyanga where the station commander leaves, then we make a farewell, but Ncata deserves it. When he arrived in Nyanga in 2014 the station was known nationwide as a murder capital. But today when he is leaving the station is sitting on position 21, which is a great achievement,” he stated.
Ncata’s colleague Maj- Gen Sizakele Dyantyi, who is a Cluster Commander, described him as a hard worker. He said Ncata served the Nyanga community wholeheartedly. “He was disciplined and an honest officer. We salute him,” said Dyantyi.
Rev Mawande Lugongolo, who is the leader of the The United Methodist Church in Philippi, also described him as a servant of the people. He said God didn’t make a mistake in deploying Ncata in Nyanga.
“Brigadier made a lot of changes in the community. His job is evident for everyone to see. We are proud of him,” said Lugongolo.
Ward 37 councillor Lionel Martin said he worked with Ncata in Nyanga for more than a decade. He stated that he knows his job.
“When he arrived here I was in the Nyanga CPF structures. We worked together very well. He is a straight forward person. He is not in that position just to get a fat cheque,” said Martin.
Ncata thanked all the people who made the day possible. “I thank my family for supporting me throughout the way and the community stakeholders. This is a day that I will never forget in my whole life. And I hope they will welcome the new station commander with warm hands (and open arms),” said Ncata.
