Four foreign nationals have been shot and killed in yet another bloody incident at Site B, Khayelitsha on Tuesday evening 7 June.
The victims are two Somalis and two Malawi nationals. The four were killed by unknown suspects at Madiba Supermarket in R Section.
The shooting occurred around 19:00. Three victims died on the scene and the fourth in hospital.
Brig Novela Potelwa, Western Cape police spokesperson, said Khayelitsha police have opened murder dockets for investigation.
“Three men were shot dead, a fourth one seriously injured and later succumbed in hospital to injuries sustained on Tuesday evening. Reports from the scene indicate that unknown gunmen entered the Madiba supermarket in R588 Sulani Drive, Site B and fired several shots at 19:00,” she said. “Three of those shot inside the shop died on the scene whilst a fourth victim who was seriously injured was transported to a medical facility for treatment. He later died in hospital as a result of the injuries suffered,” said Potelwa.
She said organised crime detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting incident.
Potelwa said the motive for the incident is yet to be determined. She did not rule out extortion and said all possibilities will be look at.
The identities of the deceased persons have not been confirmed yet, said Potelwa.
