Nyanga police are investigating a murder and three attempted murder cases following a shooting incident that occurred on Monday 24 June.
Provincial police spokesperson Lt-Col Malcolm Pojie said the incident occurred at 17:25 in Zwelitsha Drive, Nyanga which claimed the life of a 19-year-old man and wounded three other males between the ages of 17 and 20.
They had been hospitalised with multiple gunshot wounds.
“The circumstances and the motive for the attack forms part of ongoing investigations. The suspects are unknown and yet to be arrested,” said Pojie.
Nyanga Community Policing Forum secretary Dumisani Qwebe said they are devastated by the incident.
“It is sad that the shooting affected innocent people. They are the young innocent (youngsters) who were standing next to the shop. We are hurt as a community and we need the law to take its course against the perpetrators,” said Qwebe.
He said the shooting is becoming a norm in the area, adding that police are trying their best to fight crime.
“We are appealing to the community to stand up against crime. The officers alone cannot fight crime,” said Qwebe.
This incident follows another mass shooting in the area (“Nyanga shooting linked to Tsolo”, City Vision, 13 June).
He said enough is enough.
“Three weeks ago there was a mass shooting incident at Bush Road in Nyanga where four people were killed. And this is another incident again within a short period of time,” he said.
