Life will never be the same for the Scott family in Mfuleni after they received a new wendy house from Goal Supermarket on Tuesday 16 July.
The donation formed part of the retailer’s Mandela Day campaign. Three other wendy houses were built and donated in Delft, Philippi and Mfuleni.
Lawrence Ndungane, from Goal’s marketing division, described the initiative as part of giving back to the community. He said the retailer belonged to the community and had conducted similar drives for over five years.
“We are focusing on areas where our stores are situated,” said Ndengane.
Ndungane said the aim is to change people’s lives.
Nokuzola Scott, the owner of the new wendy house, could not contain her excitement. She said she did not expect to win the wendy house.
“My daughter has a Goal Supermarket App where she sees all the specials. The other day she saw a competition where you could send the word ‘Wendy house’ and explained why they should select you as a winner,” explained Scott. She said it was the first time she entered the competition.
Scott said the wendy house would make a difference as they were overcrowded.
“We were seven in total in the house. Me and my two daughters and four grandchildren. My older daughter has four children. It was difficult to sleep at night as others had to sleep on the floor,” she explained.
She said her daughter would move into the wendy house.
