As the country celebrates Women’s Month it is imperative for men to show respect to all our female counterparts.

Besides honouring the so-called political leaders, who played a pivotal role during the struggle for liberation, we equally need to honour our ordinary women.

We need to do what is right. Let us put our hands on the chest and say loudly “I will stop cheating just for a month”.

I am certain every man, including the pastors, was once a cheater. Cheating is in our genes and it has no race. It is a pity we cannot say to our partners ‘please understand me, I’m like this’.

However, I urge every man to refrain from doing that just for this month. The emotional abuse that we are inflicting to our partners is ridiculous.

Women are generally fragile. They need to be handled with care. Due to what we do to them daily, some change and become monsters. Most women cheat not because they want but they respond to our actions. It is not that they like what they do, but they try to get their partners’ attention.

Men cause women so much emotional damage. In some instances, the severity affects children who are often abandoned by their mothers.

As men, we need introspection and to apologise for our actions. We are not good examples to our children. We complain about children who lack respect, yet we are their role models. What kind of a father who doesn’t support his children?

What kind of a married man does not sleep in his house?

What kind of a father abuses his partner?

All these things are done in front of the children. What kind of society are we building?

As men, we need to forget about our political heroes for once and focus on ourselves.

In organisations, prominent figures cheat with members. In church, pastors cheat with the congregants. Everywhere we go men cheat. No, this is too much. We need to change our ways and apologise to our women. Some of us have lost their families because they fail to control themselves. Let’s stop cheating and respect our partners.
