With the ever-improving technology, it’s hard to believe that some people get pregnant and go through the entire cycle, only to dump the baby at birth or after birth.
The government has made things easier for everyone who does not want a child. This can be through contraceptive meds or condoms.
At most, one can visit the nearest health care facility for an abortion instead of doing it by themselves and risk their lives.
We know there are women who tend to do things their way. My suggestion is that if you discover late that you are pregnant, and it is too late for an abortion, give birth and take the child to an orphanage home.
The killing of newborn babies is disturbing sometimes.
Last Sunday 25 August, shack dwellers at Sikalekhekhe informal settlement in Town Two were left traumatised after they discovered a body of a newborn baby dumped near communal toilets. It is alleged that it was found in a plastic bag. Imagine committing such a thing as a mother. Where is your sympathy?
Some women are so deep and dangerous. There is no reason for such gruesome murder. Even if your partner doesn’t want or reject the child, still that is not an excuse.
Our constitution needs to be amended and make sure it deals decisively with the killers.
This is a shame not only to the culprit but to the entire family.
Last month, a similar incident occurred at Moonlight Village in KTC where the local workers discovered an infant in a drain while cleaning. (“Cleaners find infant’s body in a drain in KTC”, City Vision 1 August).
I understand, no one is safe in this country. Even as men, we have our own problems that need to be addressed. But the reality is killing someone is not a solution.
Maybe, as the black community, we need to be educated about family planning. I know the majority of us, including me, are not well informed about it (family planning).
I have three children and all of them I never planned, but I love them to bits. So please, I appeal to you (women) to do the right thing and love your children.
