Swift reaction by men in blue attached to Lwandle police’s Crime Prevention Unit yielded good results when a man was arrested with an illegal firearm.

On Monday 21 October, officers were engaged in their normal crime prevention duties when they received information from a resident about a man with a firearm in his possession in Broadway Square Mall.

The officers immediately rushed to the location and on their arrival they spotted the suspect fitting the description given to them. They approached him tactically and searched him. The officers found a firearm in his possession and immediately arrested him.

A case of possession of illegal firearm and ammunition was then opened. The 33-year-old suspect is due to appear in the Strand Magistrates’ Court once he has been formally charged.

The Lwandle acting station commander, Capt MJ Prins commended the partnership forged with the community, which he said led to the arrest.

He further appealed to the community to continue working with the police to end crime in the area.
