Hundreds of children from Kuyasa and surrounding areas attended a school holiday programme hosted by Kuyasa Library in Khayelitsha. The programme ran for four days.
A focus on safety and learning
Kuyasa’s children’s librarian, Thumeka Nyusela, described the programme as both helpful and educational. She said it is held every school holiday.
“The programme started on Monday, 30 March, and ended on Thursday, 2 April. We are focusing on children between the ages of five and 13. We have various activities planned for them, and each day we do something different,” said Nyusela.

She added that the aim is to keep children safe during the school holidays.
She urged the community to make better use of the library, highlighting the variety of activities on offer.
Educational activities at Kuyasa Library
“People often see the library as a place that only keeps books. However, we have book clubs, reading programmes, digital literacy sessions, and storytelling. Even parents are welcome to come and see what their children are doing,” she said.
Children enjoy the holiday programme
One of the children, Yomelela Tatsi (12) from Zwezwe, described the programme as fun.
“It is my second time attending this programme. I started last year during the September school holidays. The part I enjoyed the most was the storytelling,” said Yomelela. She encouraged her peers to attend similar events, as they are both fun and educational.
