Five accused including two minors appeared in the Athlone Magistrates’ Court in Athlone this morning in relation to the seven people who were shot and killed and later set alight inside the house in Better Life, Philippi-East on Friday 17 October.
Sinothando Songca (18), Kuhle Webu (22), Asavela Tshaya (21) and the two minors aged 16 and 17 years old are all charged with seven counts of murder, defeating the administration of justice and arson.
Western Cape National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila said their case has been postponed until Thursday 30 October for bail information.
The house owner Sisa Mateyisi said he is relieved that there are people who are going to answer for the deed.
“I have mixed feelings about their arrest. I’m happy that there are people who are arrested. At the same time I’m devastated by the incident. Imagine seven people killed in your own house, especially the way they were killed. But, everything depends on the court. I want the law to take its course,” said Mateyisi.
However, he expressed his gratitude to the people who supported him by sending messages during the difficult times.
