Gugulethu police are investigating a double murder following the shooting incident that occurred at Moonlight informal settlement in KTC on Sunday 10 August.
Provincial police spokesperson Col Andre Traut said the circumstances surrounding the death of a 28-year-old male and a 25-year-old female are under investigation after their bodies were discovered with fatal gunshot wounds in a residence in Mjodo Street, KTC, Gugulethu at around 20:30 on Sunday 10 August.
He said the motive for the incident is not yet known and the suspects are yet to be arrested.
A community leader who spoke on condition of anonymity described the incident as terrible.
“According to the information that we received from one of the people who were with the deceased, they heard somebody knocking on the door calling the name of one of the deceased. She said she went to open it and the perpetrators came in and opened fire on the deceased and ran away without even saying a word,” she said, adding that they were imbibing alcohol.
The community leader said the deceased are well known in the community.
“We are still puzzled by the incident as we know the deceased were people who like a good time. We never heard of them being involved in bad things. We’re hoping the officers will investigate the main cause of the shooting,” she concluded.
