The Free State Department of community safety, roads and transport put out a notice of the temporary closure of the R70 between Rosendal and Senekal in the Eastern Free State.

Construction on the road began on Monday, 10 June and is planned to be concluded in December.

Malijeng Mohale, spokesperson for the department, advised motorists that plan to travel between these two towns, to make use of alternative roads like the S1227 and S665.

“The expected speed limit of 60km/h should be maintained throughout the 30km long gravel deviation. The gravel roads will be maintained with grader and water trucks for the duration of the construction operations and closure of the road,” Mohale said.

Mohale said the department will officially inform the public about the re-opening of the road.
