In order to empower neighbourhood associations in Bloemfontein, OurSA will host a suburb conference on 20 April.

Johan Snyman, one of the directors and coordinator of OurSA, says they want to get all the leaders together to talk about common interest in the whole of the Mangaung Metro.

“This includes current neighbourhood associations, as well as other organised groups and forums that want to make a difference in their respective neighbourhoods and townships. We want to work together to improve our metro.”

OurSA was established as an umbrella organisation for community associations, businesses, community forums and all role players in the 103 suburbs and four agri areas in the metro.

Appart from Bloemfontein, the metro also includes the towns of Soutpan, Thaba Nchu, Botshabelo, Dewetsdorp, Wepener and Van Stadensrus.

It also includes environmental groups like the Friends of Franklin, Friends of Seven Dams, and other representatives that care for the metro and its residents.

OurSA want to see integrated development that tends to the various needs in the community.

The suburb conference will look at ways to empower neighbourhood associations and to talk about their respective successes and challenges. The gathering will also serve as a good opportunity for leaders in each community, who would otherwise not have the opportunity, to connect and share ideas.

OurSA is still in the process of collecting data from residents about the faulty annual increase in municipal taxes after the adjustment of the valuation of properties in July 2022.

Residents are invited to send their June and July municipal accounts to c@oursa.co.za, to be added to the growing number of statistics on how different neighbourhoods and households were affected by the faulty increase.

Get more information on the conference, which will be hosted from 18:00 to 20:00, by sending an email to c@oursa.co.za.
