Something very exciting awaits little ones this weekend when, for the first time in Bloemfontein, a symphony concert will enrapture the audience in two fascinating stories.

Heinrich Lategan, founder of the Rhapsody Orchestra and creator of the artistic production company HL Music, will present Two Stories at the André Huguenet Theatre.

The production, in association with Pacofs, consists of a children’s production featuring a narrator (Neels Vorster), puppeteers, and a 22-piece symphony orchestra, conducted and produced by Lategan.

The production aims to bring classical music in both Western and African traditions to the young listeners of Bloemfontein.

“The production uses the magic of storytelling and visual and audio interaction to entertain and stimulate young audiences and introduce them to the magic of classical music,” Lategan explains.

Children will be swept away to two far-away worlds, where two children have extraordinary experiences in their respective fights against dangerous creatures in hopes of defending their world.

For young Peter, who lives in a Russian forest, a ferocious wolf threatens the simple life of him and his animal friends.

On another continent (Africa, to be precise) young Tintinyane, a girl with the voice of a songbird, faces similar peril as her beautiful singing voice attracts the attention of the monster of the forest.

Both characters show the value of incredible bravery, intelligence, quick thinking, and creativity in saving themselves and their friends.

Two Stories will be on show on Friday, 1 March, at 18:30 and on Saturday at 14:00 and 18:30. Tickets cost R100, or R80 for groups of five and more.

These are available at the Pacofs booking office in St Andrew’s Street, webtickets.co.za or at any Pick n Pay retailer in the city.
