The Universitas Academic Hospital has unveiled a digital PET-CT scanner, marking a significant milestone in the advancement of diagnostic imaging and patient care in the Free State.

The digital PET-CT is a state-of-the-art medical imaging system that enables clinicians to visualise both the anatomical structure of the body and its physiological functions.

At the newly installed digital PET-CT scanner at the Universitas Academic Hospital are from the left Dr Gerrit Engelbrecht (clinical head of Nuclear Medicine), Ernest Mohlahlo (head of department at the Free State Department of Health), Prof. Osayande Evbuomwan (medical specialist and departmental head of Nuclear Medicine), Prof. Deliwe Rene Phetlhu (dean of the University of the Free State’s Faculty of Health Sciences) and Kwame Kwakwa (deputy director for Finance at the Universitas Academic Hospital). This advanced technology enhances diagnostic accuracy, supports early disease detection, and improves treatment planning and patient outcomes.

Prof. Osayande Evbuomwan, medical specialist and departmental head of Nuclear Medicine at the Universitas Adademic Hospital, said buying this scanner enhanced quality care.
