Die fiasko met vanjaar se nasionale atletiekkampioenskapsbyeenkoms vir skole bevestig opnuut waarom die skoolbeheerliggaamorganisasie Fedsas reeds jare al versoek dat skolesport \u2019n funksie van die departement van basiese onderwys moet wees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die atletiekbyeenkoms, wat vandag (8 April) sou begin, is op die nippertjie uitgestel tot 29 April 2026. Dit is verskuif na die Pilditch-stadion in Pretoria omdat die Royal Bafokeng-stadion in Rustenburg nie meer beskikbaar is nie. Die byeenkoms word gesamentlik gere\u00ebl deur die departement van basiese onderwys, die departement van sport, kuns en kultuur en Suid-Afrikaanse Skole-atletiek (Sasa).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Deacon s\u00ea vanjaar se chaos is selfs erger as verlede jaar, toe daar nie voldoende akkommodasie en maaltye beskikbaar was vir die nasionale byeenkoms in Bloemfontein nie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTen spyte van versoeke om optrede en ontvangs van verslae het net mooi niks verander nie. Hier is ons nou \u2019n jaar later en weer is ons top-skoolatlete uitgelewer aan onbevoegde staatsamptenare. Atlete het die hele seisoen hard gewerk om spesifiek vandeesweek piekprestasie te behaal. Ouers het aansienlike uitgawes aangegaan en verlof geneem om hul kinders te ondersteun. Provinsies het kostes aangegaan en honderde opvoeders moes re\u00eblings tref om tydens skooldae afwesig te wees om as beamptes diens te doen.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Ons doen \u2019n dringende beroep op die betrokke ministers om onmiddellik in te gryp en toe te sien dat die re\u00eblings van die byeenkoms nou op ho\u00eb vlak behartig word. Ons eis ook \u2019n deursigtige ondersoekproses en duidelike terugvoer oor tugstappe. Daarmee saam soek Fedsas ook \u2019n nasionale openbare verskoning aan leerders en ouers, asook \u2019n meganisme om ouers en provinsies vir hul verliese te vergoed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volgens Deacon toon die departement van sport, kuns en kultuur telkens dat daar nie voldoende begrip is van die skoolomgewing, skoolkalender en die dinamika tussen skoolbyeenkomste nie. \u201cDie samewerking tussen die departemente is gebrekkig en die spanning tussen Sasa en Atletiek Suid-Afrika dra nie juis by tot stabiliteit nie.\u201d

Deacon s\u00ea  indien skolesport \u2019n funksie van die departement van basiese onderwys is, sal dit ook \u2019n beter belyning met die skoolkalender meebring. \u201cSkolesport moet aktief bevorder en befonds word. Nie net is dit bepalend vir die loopbane van ons sportlui van die toekoms nie, maar dit speel ook \u2019n belangrike samebindende rol in skoolgemeenskappe en die bre\u00ebr samelewing.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
