Foto\u2019s: Verskaf<\/div>\n<div class=\"img_accreditation\"><span class=\"source\" style=\"display:none;\"><\/span><span class=\"photographer\" style=\"display:none;\"><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Die eerste byeenkoms vir volwassenes met Downsindroom en hul gesinslede is onlangs in Bloemfontein aangebied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As een van die ambassadeurs vir mense met Downsindroom oor die w\u00eareld heen het Sh\u00e9ri Brynard tydens die inperking weens die Covid-19-pandemie gereeld met di\u00e9 groep aanlyn vergaderings bygewoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Die groep ontmoet die afgelope twee jaar elke twee maande om gedagtes uit te ruil en oor \u2019n wye verskeidenheid onderwerpe te leer soos deur Downsindroom Inter\u00adnasionaal (Dsi) bepaal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sh\u00e9ri, in samewerking met die uitvoerende hoof van Downsindroom Suid-Afrika (DSSA) Ancella Rhamjas, het reeds vroe\u00ebr \u2019n groep in Suid-Afrika gestig, maar tydens \u2019n simposium in Pretoria het Sh\u00e9ri besef dat sy dit steeds nader aan die huis wou bring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Op 18 Junie is die eerste fisieke byeenkoms in Bloemfontein by die Koekela-huiskafee in Westdene aangebied, wat deur nege mense met Downsindroom of intellektuele gestremdheid, asook hul ouers en sibbe, bygewoon is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Susette, Sh\u00e9ri se ma, s\u00ea sy en Sh\u00e9ri het die byeenkoms gere\u00ebl, maar die groep gaan hul aktiwiteite in die toekoms self bepaal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDie dae dat mense skaam was vir \u2019n gestremde kind, is lank reeds verby,\u201d s\u00ea Susette. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOns kom juis bymekaar om elkeen se lewe te vier. Elke ouer en gesinslid het getuig van die groei in hul lewe danksy die pad wat hulle saam met \u2019n kind, broer of suster moet stap wat \u2019n bietjie stadiger ontwikkel.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Susette s\u00ea hulle wil graag meer volwassenes met intellektuele uitdagings en mense met Down\u00adsindroom by die groep betrek.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sy s\u00ea die groep is nou Afrikaans, en \u2019n bietjie Engels word gepraat, maar hulle wil graag groepe wat ander tale magtig is, betrek.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Downsindroom Vrystaat het die eerste geselligheid
