The security firm Fidelity ADT urges residents about home security following a recent spike in opportunistic crime in Bloemfontein, spesifically in Langenhoven Park and Brandwag.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Charnel Hattingh, Group head of marketing and communications at Fidelity, said they have received numerous reports of wall jumpers late at night into the early hours of the morning between 22:00 and 02:00, walking on perimeter walls, on patio roofs stealing anything they find. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt\u2019s mainly petty theft, reaching through open windows on the second floor of apartment buildings to take things they can sell like small electronic goods.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hattingh says residents should make it difficult for opportunists to get onto your property.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe best defence against burglars, opportunistic thieves or armed robbers is to make your property as unattractive to criminals as possible by implementing extra precautions to keep your belongings safe, inside and outside the home,\u201d says Hattingh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe perimeter of your property is probably one of the most important security barriers you need to worry about. \u201cIt is an intruder\u2019s first point of access, so you need to ensure your perimeter is secure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cGet physical barriers like barbed wire fencing installed. Keep your security gates locked at all times and ensure the keys are removed. Activate early-warning systems such as garden beams and\/or electric fencing and ensure these are linked to armed response. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cEnsure that your gate motor is secured in a steel casing or bracket, which is locked at all times. Make sure your alarm is working properly in all zones of the home,\u201d she adds.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
