Wit paaltjies met die woorde Gevaar\/Danger is al waarskuwingstekens om die publiek in te lig oor die gevaar van die Witherowdam-gruisgroef in Heidedal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Daar is geen heining rondom di\u00e9 dam nie. Die dam hou nie net \u2019n gevaar vir die gemeenskap van Heidedal in nie, maar is ook \u2019n groot knelpunt wat dwelmmisbruik in die buurt betref.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Roy Jankielsohn, die DA se provinsiale leier, het vandag \u2019n optog gelei na die Heidedal-polisiekantoor waar \u2019n memorandum oorhandig is oor die gevare wat die Witherowdam en gruisgroef vir kinders en volwassenes inhou.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sowat 150 mense het deelgeneem aan die optog met plakkate soos \u201cRed ons kinders\u201d en \u201cDA eis optrede deur die SAPD\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DA-raadslid Attie Terblanche s\u00ea die dam en veld rondom die dam waar die steengroef is, is \u2019n nes vir dwelmhandel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSedert 2000 is daar talle mense en kinders hier dood. Ons sukkel om presiese getalle by die polisie te kry,\u201d s\u00ea Terblanche. Die nuutste voorval was die dood van Dustin Kukari (26) wat 12 Junie as vermis aangemeld is en wie se lyk later hier gevind is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Terblanche s\u00ea een van die groot probleme is dat Heidedal se swembad nou al lank toe is. Elke somer kom swem kinders hier in die dam om af te koel en mense vang ook hier vis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDit is nie veilig vir ons kinders hier nie,\u201d s\u00ea Terblanche.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gemeenskapleier Gregory Werner het kort n\u00e1 Kukari se dood aan die Menseregekommissie geskryf en gevra dat daar dringend ingegryp word om verdere lewensverlies te voorkom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In antwoord op Jankielsohn se vraag in die Vrystaatse Wetgewer aan Ketso Makume, die Vrystaatse LUR vir samewerkende regering en tradisionele sake, oor stappe wat geneem gaan word om die steengroef te beveilig, het Makume aanbeveel dat die polisie \u2019n ondersoek doen om inligting en bewyse in te samel om die voorvalle te dokumenteer en regstellende stappe te neem. Die LUR beveel aan dat die polisie \u2019n skrywe aan die grondeienaars uitreik oor die stappe wat geneem moet word om die risiko van die dam te verminder of uit te skakel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jankielsohn s\u00ea in antwoord van die ministerie van minerale bronne en energie in die Nasionale Raad van Provinsies (NRP) ontvang is, is die rehabilitasie van die gebied voltooi en \u2019n sluitingsertifikaat reeds in 2006 uitgereik. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In die memorandum aan die polisie word ook gevra dat daar ondersoek ingestel word na die omstandighede rondom die dood van Kukari. Die DA vra ook in die memorandum dat ander sterftes wat by en in die dam plaasgevind het, ondersoek word.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jankielsohn, wat Vrydag (11\/08) deur die leier van die DA John Steenhuisen aangewys is as die Vrystaat se premierskandidaat vir die DA, s\u00ea dit is so jammer dat die Witherowdam verlate staan en so groot krisis in die gemeenskap veroorsaak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDit bied soveel moontlikhede vir ontwikkeling. Ongelukkig is die kanse skraal dat ontwikkeling hier sal plaasvind tot voordeel van die gemeenskap onder \u2019n ANC-regering,\u201d het Jankielsohn by die gruisgroef ges\u00ea.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
