In celebration of World Environment Day, the Free State Young Artist Competition\u2019s theme was \u201cSolutions to Plastic Pollution\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The National Museum announced the winners for this annual competition at the museum on Saturday. There were 42 entrants from ages five to 18 years who created art in a variety of mediums.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The winner in category C, for high school learners, is Sun\u00e9 Fourie (18), a gr. 12 learner at the Ho\u00ebr Meisieskool Oranje. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In category A, for learners aged five to nine years, the winner is Deandr\u00e9 du Toit (7), a home schooler.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Second is Sun\u00e9 Louw (8), a home schooler; third Olivia Hasenjager (8), a home schooler; and Ethan Cloete (9) of the Fichardtpark Primary School received a merit certificate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zoey Su (10) won the category for participants ten to 14 years old.<\/div>\n
<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Zoey Su (10) received a first prize in category B, for learners aged ten to 14 years. She is a learner at the Eunice Primary School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Second in this category was her sister, Athena Su (11), also of Eunice. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In joint third place was Bachumile Sithole (10) of the Roseview Primary School and Geertje Venter (12) of the Missio Dei School. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The winners received cash prizes from the museum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The guest speaker, Min\u00e9 Kleynhans, encouraged the young artists to keep on playing and enjoy art. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The art will be on display at the museum until the end of September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
