In South Africa there is a great need for children to have access to books.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
International Literacy Day was celebrated on 8 September and Clover Mama Afrika, a corporate social Investment project, has started a country-wide book drive to collect children\u2019s books.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In general, the project upskills teachers and caregivers to care for themselves, their centres, and those they care for. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The project has successfully helped these women (Mamas) to improve their small businesses and community centres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Many of the Mamas take care of the children in their communities, and with Literacy Day in mind, Clover is hoping to bring the joy and knowledge that can be discovered through books to these children. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mama Phomolo Raisa, owner of the Self-help Pre-School in Botshabelo, has more than 150 children in her care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She would love to spoil these children with the joy of reading books.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She cares for babies, pre-schoolers up to the age of six, as well as learners who receive extra classes from ages six to 15.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
These children need books in Sotho and English. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Prof. Elain Vlok, Clover manager, the Clover Mama Afrika Trust identified 24 mamas in eight provinces who are participating, as they hope to collect educational and reading books for the children in their centres. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Donations can be dropped off at Clover Bloemfontein at 54 Tannery Street, Hamilton, before Friday, 29 September.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
