The Free State Department of Community Safety, Roads, and Transport, in partnership with the Central University of Technology (CUT), Free State, has launched a groundbreaking initiative to tackle the issue of potholes on the province\u2019s roads. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
This innovative project focuses on empowerment, skills-building, and creating jobs for unskilled women and youthS, while also repairing roads and addressing infrastructure challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Since its launch in November 2023, the project has already created over 550 jobs, with a target of 650 by the end of February. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Work is now underway in all five districts of the province, with road sections in Mangaung, Xhariep, Lejweleputswa, Thabo Mofutsanyana, and Fezile Dabi receiving attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The project\u2019s ambitious goal is to repair 70 000 m\u00b2 of road sections by the end of March. The initiative is also placing a strong emphasis on skills training and knowledge sharing, providing 650 learners with Construction Education and Training Authority (Ceta)-accredited training. The ongoing research being conducted will ensure that the solutions implemented for long-term road maintenance are sustainable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
