{"id":44556,"date":"2024-03-14T08:48:33","date_gmt":"2024-03-14T06:48:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/bloemnuus\/student-lives-dream-through-pageant-20240313-2\/"},"modified":"2025-03-20T06:17:15","modified_gmt":"2025-03-20T04:17:15","slug":"student-lives-dream-through-pageant-20240313-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/bloemnewsexpress\/student-lives-dream-through-pageant-20240313-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Student lives dream through pageant"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A finalist in the Miss Universal South Africa pageant, Serena Donachie, held a fund-raising dinner in aid of cancer research as part of her campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The fund raising was held on 19 February in Bloemfontein.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Serena is a third-year medical student at the University of the Free State and also a kiddies model coach at AB Model Coaching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI entered Miss Universal SA to challenge myself. Being part of a pageant contributes greatly to one\u2019s personal development and self-awareness. This is important to me as someone who is constantly seeking to evolve and become a better version of myself.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She says pageantry is an amazing way through which one can serve your community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere is a phrase that says, \u2018power of the sash\u2019. This means using your title as a finalist or titleholder as a tool to build relationships to help you community. Another reason why I entered was to use this platform as a finalist to support a cause close to my heart.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She said she chose cancer research because someone very close to her received a cancer diagnoses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn seeing the events unfold from that diagnosis, and the amplitude of the effect that such a diagnosis has on the individual and their loved ones, I was motivated to take on cancer research and awareness as my charity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMy hope is that through the collective efforts of individuals to support cancer research and awareness, new and better treatments or preventative measures can be made available to our communities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The final of the pageant is set for 21 to 24 March in Pretoria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div
