{"id":44049,"date":"2024-04-25T08:18:49","date_gmt":"2024-04-25T06:18:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/bloemnuus\/beker-omhoog-gelig-20240424-2\/"},"modified":"2025-03-20T06:26:25","modified_gmt":"2025-03-20T04:26:25","slug":"beker-omhoog-gelig-20240424-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/bloemnewsexpress\/beker-omhoog-gelig-20240424-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Beker omhoog gelig"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"p\">Agt van die se\u00ebvierende Shimlas se Varsitybeker-sterre is genooi om saam met die Cheetahs te oefen.<p><\/p>\n<div class=\"p\">\n<p>Frans Steyn, direkteur van rugby, het Dinsdag ges\u00ea die Shimla-spelers&nbsp; moet die res van die week nog hul Varsitybeker-glorie geniet, want hulle verdien dit.<\/p>\n<p>Tot reg aan die einde het die spanning hoog geloop in die epiese eindstryd om die Varsitybeker wat op Maandag 22 April op Shimlapark tussen die Shimlas en Ikeys beslis is.<\/p>\n<p>Die eindtelling van 45 \u2013 42 in die Shimlas se guns, is \u2019n akkurate beeld van die stryd wat tussen di\u00e9 twee spanne van die Universiteit van die Vrystaat (UV) en die Universiteit van Wes-Kaap (UWK) gewoed het.<\/p>\n<p>Teen die einde het die wedstryd voortgesnel op 42 punte elk met die Shimlas wat net nie n\u00f3g \u2019n drie kon druk nie, toe \u2019n strafskop aan die Shimlas toegeken is.<\/p>\n<p>Ethan Wentzel het met sy skopskoen toegesien dat sy span kon spog met die titel wat die Shimlas in 2015 laas gekry het.<\/p>\n<p>Steyn s\u00ea van die Shimlas wat nie beseer is nie, kan reeds volgende week in aanmerking kom vir wedstrydtyd (teen die Valke).<\/p>\n<div class=\"p\">\n<div class=\"p\">\u201cHulle het ongelooflik gedoen. Ek was daar en het self my longe uitgeskree,\u201d s\u00ea Steyn.<p><\/p>\n<div class=\"p\">\u201cOns moet sien wat van hulle kan doen en hopelik kan hulle die geleenthede benut,\u201d s\u00ea Steyn.<p><\/p>\n<div class=\"p\">Michael Annies (heelagter\/vleuel), Zane Bester en Jooste Nel (albei senters), Ethan Wentzel (losskakel), Jandr\u00e9 Nel (skrumskakel), Pierre-Raymond Uys (flank\/slot), Johnr\u00e9 Stopforth (slot) en Neels Volschenk (flank\/agtsteman) is die name wat Steyn afgelees het om hulle by die Cheetahs aan te sluit. Dit was net nog \u2019n teken van hoeveel bloed, sweet en trane dit sy span gekos het om by di\u00e9 oorwinning te kom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kort n\u00e1 die wedstryd om 19:00 begin het, was dit die Ikeys wat gelyk het of hulle alleen op die veld is nadat Keagan Blackenberg en kort daarna Jonathan Roche blitsig twee drie\u00eb gedruk het.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nel het die Shimlas se eerste drie gedruk voordat Liyema Mgwigwi oor die doellyn is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Teen halftyd het die Ikeys voor geloop met 31 \u2013 26 en het die Shimlas besef hulle sal moet hard veg om weer voor te kom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dinge het weer positief begin lyk vir die Shimlas toe Nel vroeg in die tweede helfte \u2019n sewepunt-drie gedruk het. Hy het uit die Shimlas se halfgebied gehardloop om di\u00e9 drie te druk en hoewel aanvanklik net vyf punte toegeken is, is dit later na sewe punte verhoog wat deel van die Varsity-beker se re\u00ebls is. Met di\u00e9 stewige sewe punte in die sakkie, het Siviwe Zondani nog \u2019n drie gedruk voordat Ikeys weer die telling gelyk gemaak het tot 42 elk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Die spanning het hoog geloop toe Wentzel regmaak vir di\u00e9 bepalende skop. Sou hy nie oorskop nie en die telling gelyk wees met die einde van die wedstryd, sou die wedstryd moes voortgaan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gelukkig was Wentzel se skopskoen akkuraat en kon die Shimlas en die
