Macram\u00e9 is a craft of tying thread or string into decorative knots. It can be used to make all sorts of things \u2013 from clothing to artwork.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lisa started to make plant holders, decorative items and even shelve holders with macram\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMy love for indoor plants and this new hobby started to take over our townhouse, and Christopher suggested I start selling my macram\u00e9.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lisa decided to sell her pieces at the Langenhoven Market \u2013 and people showed some interest, mostly those explaining to their children or grandchildren what macram\u00e9 is. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMy full-time position as a plant pathology researcher however hampered my availablity for weekly markets. Almost a year passed, and I missed seeing the excited faces of people when looking at my macram\u00e9 or people sharing their memories of macram\u00e9 with me. I needed to return to having a market stall, and decided the French Market was the perfect fit for me. It is a quarterly experience, and I can be indoors \u2013 which best displays my pieces of art. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAs a self-taught macram\u00e9 artist I look forward to teaching Bloemfonteiners, starting this year with Villa Avianto as our host.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lisa makes some standard items, but is also keen to make objects to clients\u2019 requests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Winter French Market at Villa Avianto in Kwaggafontein will start at 09:00 on Saturday, 1 June, and is open untill 15:00.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Entry costs R40, R30 for students and pensioners, R20 for learners from Gr. 8 to Gr. 12 and R10 for learners in Gr. 1 to Gr. 7. Children younger than six enter for free.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
