BLOEMFONTEIN <\/strong>– Marumo Gallants can guarantee safety from both automatic relegation and the promotion\/relegation play-offs with a victory over in-form Stellenbosch in their final Premier Soccer League (PSL) fixture today – Saturday at the Dr R.P. Molemela Stadium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kick-off is at 15:00, as with all league matches scheduled by the PSL.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is a high-stakes encounter for both sides, with the teams desperate for a win. Victory for the Gavin Hunt-led Stellies will possibly secure them a slot in the top eight, while the Trevor Mathiane-led Gallants will guarantee their safety in the 2026\/27 PSL season. Currently placed 14th with 24 points on the PSL table, the Gallants are under immense pressure to retain their elite status.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They are embroiled in a frantic four-way battle to avoid relegation alongside the following clubs in their respective positions: Chippa United sit 13th on 25 points, Orbit College are 15th on 24 points, and Magesi FC are in 16th position with 21\u00a0points. Chippa take on an improved Kaizer Chiefs at the FNB Stadium, while Orbit tussle with league-title-chasing Orlando Pirates at the Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga, and Magesi meet Richards Bay at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Limpopo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Points and goal difference are the only factors separating all four sides. While a win is crucial for their survival, a draw could suffice for Mathiane \u2014 provided Chippa, Orbit and Magesi all fail to win their respective matches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Goal difference will be another determining factor in the four teams’ relegation battle – Chippa United (goal difference: -21), the Gallants (goal difference: -17), Orbit (goal difference: -24), and Magesi (goal difference: -20).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Gallants improved their survival prospects significantly after securing a crucial 1-1 draw against Polokwane City in another high-stakes match last Saturday. Their fate heading into the final matchday against Stellenbosch also depends on the results in relegation fixtures involving the trio – Chippa, Orbit and Magesi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Relegation would drastically reduce the revenue streams of the two clubs to be relegated \u2014 primarily through the loss of the lucrative PSL R2 million monthly grants. Notably, relegation would be devastating for the Gallants \u2014 it would jeopardise the significant money that club owner Dr Abram Sello has invested in the club. The drop would further complicate the high-stakes legal dispute with Moroka Swallows FC over alleged outstanding payments from the club’s R40-million franchise purchase in 2024, according to court documents.
