Cyclists can get ready for the commencement of the Oryx Unbound Gravel Series, with Race2theSky being first in line on 7 February.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This is followed by the Matsa (Petrusburg) on 28 March; Sungazer (Bloemfontein) on 30 May; Race2TheKaroo (Hopetown) on 29 August; and Battle of the Bikes (Jacobsdal) on 3 October.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On top of this, two adventure rides, which are non-competitive, are scheduled. The Sandstone Unbound, from 23 to 26 April, takes place in the Witteberg mountains with cyclers aiming to best 270km of gravel spanning four days of riding. Taking part in the Unbound 200, from 19 to 23 October, cyclers cover 439km of gravel roads across battlefields in the Northern Cape and Free State. This is a five-day ride.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The first event of the Gravel Series, Race2TheSky, takes place in the background of the Uitzicht Game Lodge near Fouriesburg in the Eastern Free State. The route takes cyclers over a mix terrain of gravel roads, hills, and farm roads, with 25 climbs in total. Choose from one of three distances – Unbound (100 Miler or 165km), Quest (86km) or Dash (50km).\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In preparing for a race, hydration and cramp management “are your best friends,” stated Oryx Endurance, sharing the following advice:\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u25a0 Camel pack \u2013 Even with water stations provided along the route, carry your own life-support. A hydration pack lets you sip constantly without losing your line on the gravel.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u25a0 Salt and magnesium \u2013 Do not wait for the twitch. Pop those electrolytes early and keep the pistons moving.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u25a0 “Emergency shot” \u2013 Keep a cramp-blocker or pickle juice in your pocket for that “in case of an emergency” moment.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u25a0 Oasis \u2013 Pull over at the water stations. Grab a banana, and refill your bottles.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u25a0 Experiencing a mid-climb crisis? Stop and unclip before you tip. Stretch it out, knead that muscle like sourdough, and walk for a minute before spinning away in your easiest gear.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
