Two workers of the Central University of Technology (CUT), Free State, seized the opportunity to turn over a new leaf in their lives. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The pair, Aletta Mhambi and Bafedile Mothae, have each graduated with a diploma in Office Management and Technology. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
They studied part-time while working for the institution and have become a true reflection of humble beginnings culminating in great endings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mhambi and Mothae were among the 3 798 graduates for whom the university rolled out the red carpet when the autumn graduation ceremony was held on the Bloemfontein campus on 9 May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The duo had started as humble general workers with only a dream, desire and enthusiasm to turn their livelihoods around. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
They seized the opportunity to transform their lives following permanent appointment. Mothae had held the position of acting supervisor of grounds and gardens and Mhambi was a cleaner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIn 2016, I gathered all my courage and enrolled for a diploma in Office Management and Technology,\u201d said Mothae. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis was a giant step in my life. I was terrified and intimidated due to my lack of confidence, but through God and the support I got, I am graduating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAll my heart\u2019s desires of becoming a graduate have finally come to life. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI am also grateful for the CUT\u2019s staff developmental programme and the financial support the institution provides to its staff who, like me, want to develop their personal and professional skills. I am overwhelmed with joy,\u201d said Mothae. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Her journey continues, with her having enrolled for an advanced diploma in Monitoring and Evaluation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mhambi said her permanent appointment by the institution unlocked the opportunity to study further towards a prestigious qualification. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis was the beginning of my career journey. I am highly motivated, grateful and excited to have received such an opportunity. I am proud that I utilised this opportunity well,\u201d said Mhambi. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cGrowing up, life was challenging. We struggled to access anything and everything. I am thankful for my perseverance and a will to carry on. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI managed to pass my matric against all odds. Post matric, I had to look for a job to help put food on the table and assist my siblings in furthering their studies. At that time, I also had a desire to further my studies, but I could not afford it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
