A vending machine that dispenses sanitary products has improved the attendance of female learners of the Lereko Secondary School in Bloemfontein. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
This automated machine, courtesy of Windmill Casino and Sun International, was handed over to the school on 13 May. It is part of the Adopt a School Project, the hotel group\u2019s community social investment initiative. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cNo girl should be missing school due to a lack of access to proper sanitary products,\u201d said Johan Oosthuizen, general manager of the casino. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe hope the machine will help these young women focus on their studies and stop worrying about where they will find sanitary products.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Francina Kibinye, acting principal, the machine has had an immediate effect on the attendance rate of the 600 female learners. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe school and governing body are grateful for the donation,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Since embarking on its educational programme to integrate sustainable practices at schools in 2019, the group has adopted 38 schools across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This initiative has seen R15 million invested to incorporate various social, health and safety, economic and environmental improvements. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
