The spate of recent burglaries have led to the temporary closure of at least six traffic and licensing centres in the Free State. Following these closures, the Department of Community Safety, Roads and Transport (CSRT) has advised motorists to use service centres in neighbouring towns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The affected centres are in the following towns: Edenburg, Odendaalsrus, Theunissen, Deneysville, Hobhouse, and Botshabelo. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Botshabelo centre is serving large numbers, second after the Lengau centre in the Mangaung Metro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hillary Mophethe, spokesperson of the department, said security will be tightened at the affected centres during the closure. \u201cThe department will be beefing up security with alarms systems. These will be connected to security company control centres. In addition, the police will be engaged to assist with patrols to our sites,\u201d said Mophethe. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
She said a burglary syndicate stole cables and essential equipment such as monitors. \u201cThe department temporarily closed these centres to resolve these challenges. Members of the public will be informed when the testing stations are open to render services,\u201d said Mophethe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She said the centres were also closed due to the Inspectorate Unit establishment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
All drivers with learner licences, driving licence cards, temporary driving licences and professional driving licences that have expired, are advised to go to nearby centres. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
