These include bladder control issues like leakage, urinary incontinence and urinary retention, urinary tract infections (UTIs) and chronic kidney disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bladder problems affect men and women of all ages and can impact participation in daily activities, sexual health and emotional well-being.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The signs and symptoms of bladder problems differ from one person to the next. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Symptoms are also affected by the type of bladder problem and its severity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The common signs and symptoms of bladder problems are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li> urine leakage;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li> the need to urinate more than eight times per day and more than two times per night;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li> the urge to urinate on the spur of the moment;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li> pain before, during or after urinating;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li> cloudy and bloody urine; <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li> passing only small amounts of urine; <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li> urine that smells strongly;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li> pain during sexual intercourse; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li> lower abdominal pain or pressure.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Murray Hewlett, chief executive officer of Affinity Health, advises people experiencing urinary issues to consult a doctor or a urologist. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bladder problems are caused by a bacterial infection that enters the urinary tract through<span>, including<\/span>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li> sexual intercourse (particularly with new partners);<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li> inadequate urination hygiene;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li> tampons, douches and spermicides; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>bowel incontinence. of the bowel<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Other potential causes of bladder problems that does not involve infection include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li> ageing;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li> constipation;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li> being overweight;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li> a chronic, long-lasting cough;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li> a bladder lining defect;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li> reaction to allergens;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li> autoimmune response; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li> chemical exposure.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Tips for preventing bladder problems<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The best way to avoid bladder problems is to practise good personal hygiene and stay hydrated. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to the above, Affinity Health recommends the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li> consume a nutritious diet rich in fresh, whole foods;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>exercise frequently;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li> quit smoking;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li> keep a healthy weight; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>reduce your intake of bladder irritants such as caffeine, acidic foods and alcohol.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Around 300 million people worldwide suffer from bladder problems.
