The Great Central University of Technology Choir of the Bloemfontein campus extended a caring hand to the Boikhuco Old Age Home in Bochabela and its residents as part of a community outreach. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The choir paid residents a visit on 21 May and entertained them with their singing. The choir also gave them blankets. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dintle Adoro, chairperson of the choir, said the group\u2019s decision to reach out was prompted by an identified need and sense of caring for elderly citizens, bearing in mind that their generation had paved the way for those who followed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe special visit is about sharing love and showing that we care for them as part of the society,\u201d said Adoro. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Adoro, these types of entertainment activities are necessary to make the elderly feel acknowledged, and to give them a sense that they are still part of the larger society. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The choir\u2019s annual outreach programme is aimed at helping the most fragile members in the community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Presently, Boikhuco is home to 80 elderly citizens who have been placed here by their family, depending on their respective situations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Matilda Molatole, nursing sister, said most of the elders receive chronic medication. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
She also noted that there was a great need for routine activities to keep the residents active and lower their risk of de\u00adveloping certain health problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
