The matter relating to fraud and money laundering allegations involving the Bloemfontein-based law firm Matsepe Inc. Attorneys and its former administration clerk is yet to be finalised. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The case was postponed to 21 July in the Bloemfontein Magistrates\u2019 Court during the reappearance of Herman Daniel Badenhorst on 25 May. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The matter has been ongoing since May last year, following Badenhorst\u2019s arrest by the Hawks\u2019 Serious Commercial Crime Investigation unit in Bloemfontein.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Capt. Christopher Singo, provincial spokesperson for the Hawks, said the matter was postponed to the date in question to accomodate arrangements for a pretrial to commence. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The case against Badenhorst originates from allegations that he defrauded his former employer of R4 million. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The elite crime fighting wing launched an investigation after the firm had reported the irregularities discovered. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Badenhorst was dismissed from employment at the firm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Singo said their investigations revealed the fraud had been committed in the time frame between February 2018 and January 2021. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Further investigation by the Hawks culminated in the arrest of the suspect last year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Singo said preliminary findings had revealed Badenhorst had allegedly defrauded the law compan\u00ady by authorising payments from insolvent estate accounts, and then filed the necessary requisitions for payments to be made into his personal bank accounts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
