No fatalities have been reported after two horrific separate accidents which occurred in Bloemfontein yesterday morning (27\/06). <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The first accident on the N1 outside the city involved a bus and truck, believed to have collided a few kilometres before the exit point of the R30 road and N1, at about 01:00.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The other involved two sedans in the Dr Belcher Road subway, where a cyclist was apparently hit by one the sedans in the subway during the crash. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mondli Mvambi, spokesperson of the Free State Department of Health, says all the survivors who sustained injuries during the two accidents were treated at the Pelonomi Hospital in Bloemfontein. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said that of the 19 people treated in the hospital\u2019s trauma unit, 17 have been discharged. Mvambi said five were to be reassessed after their X-ray results. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Both the drivers of the bus and the truck are among the survivors. According to Mvambi, there were 42 people in the bus, 40 passengers plus two drivers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The rescue operation required specialised equipment from the Mangaung Fire and Rescue Services as well as towing services, to extricate the survivors from beneath the bus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The exact cause of the collision between the bus and the truck is being investigated by the police.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
