The Oliewenhuis Art Museum in Bloemfontein will host the launch of a book dedicated to wildlife conservation on Thursday, 16 November, starting at 19:00. The event is open for members of the public to attend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The event will take the form of a short lecture and revolves around the photo book, titled Simbamangu<\/span>, with images seen through the eyes of caracal. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The book is a collaboration by Dr Nico Avenant and Homo Ambiens Wildlife Conservation Photography. Avenant works in the Mammalogy Department of the National Museum in Bloemfontein.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The book showcases one of Southern Africa\u2019s most striking and secretive cat species, the caracal. It informs on the intricate interlinkages and complexities in nature, and the multifaceted and controversial ways in which caracal are managed in Southern Africa. It also indicates the important role that wildlife photo\u00adgraphy can play in dealing with very sensitive conservation issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Apart from very special pictures of this predator, and the habitat in which it lives, the text reflects on more than 20 years of Avenant\u2019s research in a diversity of habitats and geographic areas.
