Teams are firing on all cylinders as they enter the final stretch of the league competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
D\u2019 General secured a 3 \u2013 0 win against the Bloemfontein Young Tigers in a fixture played at the Kaizer Sebothelo Stadium in Botshabelo on Saturday, 20 January. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
This followed a 3 \u2013 1 victory against Dikgosi FC in a match played in December. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In fact, the most recent fixture was the third in which D\u2019 General managed to score three goals, when considering a three-all draw with Peace Lovers FC, also in December. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The win against Tigers improved D\u2019 General\u2019s standing on the log for stream A, while adding to the woes of the Tigers, who are struggling to get out of the relegation zone. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The first stanza was an even contest, with the visiting team creating ample scoring opportunities but lacking the ability to capitalise on these. The second stanza, however, saw D\u2019 General score all the important goals of the match, played during a searing heatwave. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The current leaders in stream A, Bloemfontein Celtic FC on 22 points, and the second-placed Dikgosi FC on 19 points managed to secure a narrow 1 \u2013 0 win each; over FC Matjhabeng in Welkom and the Super Eagles FC in Bethlehem, respectively. These matches were also played on Saturday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
D\u2019 General, having thus far lost one game of ten played, trail behind the leaders by four points. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dikwena United FC from Sasolburg is in fourth position with 17 points in stream A; which has ten clubs, while stream B has nine clubs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The contest in stream B appears to be a one-horse race, with Mangaung United FC topping the log with 23 points, being the only undefeated team of the nine. United recorded a 5 \u2013 0 win against Dynamos FC in an away fixture. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In second place is the Botshabelo-based Mathaithai FC, with 17 points, having only lost one match of eight. The single defeat was against the Spartans in December. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The University of the Free State\u2019s (UFS) Kovsie FC is third on the log, with 15 points. The university outfit shared the spoils after playing to a one-all draw with Buffalo FC from Kroonstad.
