The items were presented on Wednesday, 28 February, to approximately 209 people. The internationally acclaimed foundation\u2019s aid supplements support which the Free State government is continuing to render in partnership with non-government entities such as the South African Red Cross Society. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gregory Nthatisi, executive mayor of the Mangaung Metro, stated the unfortunate aspect about the natural disaster was that it aggravated the situation of poverty-stricken people, the unemployed, and elderly people depending on state grants to make ends meet. The victims, whose properties were damaged, are struggling to recover and improve their livelihoods. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cA lasting solution in terms of helping to rebuild damaged houses is being sought from the provincial government and relevant department. Food hampers from the Gift of the Givers and their partners, including Absa, is temporary and is critical in terms of providing relief,\u201d said Nthatisi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The wheelchair-bound Agnes Mkhize (80) expressed great appreciation with the goodwill gesture. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis gesture is welcomed because it will supplement groceries and sustain us until the end of March,\u201d said Mkhize. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
She said with the monthly state grant she provided for her unemployed 52-year-old son and schoolgoing 14-year-old grandson. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mkhize is temporarily staying with a church member. The devastating storm, accompanied by heavy rain, blew off the roof of her house in Phelindaba. Other displaced people are temporarily staying with close friends and family members while awaiting possible assistance from the provincial government. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The residents of Bloemfontein who suffered substantial losses reside in Turflaagte, and Phases 5, 6, and 10. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The provincial government has since set up food and clothing banks in Bloemfontein, serving as a one-stop centre for donations, where victims receive assistance while rebuilding their lives and awaiting aid from the government.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
