A three-day book festival aimed at celebrating local authors and promoting literacy and reading culture will be held in Thaba Nchu from 9 to 11 May. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Called the Thaba Nchu Book Festival, it is an initiative of the Charmza Literary Club.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The festival is underpinned on the value of books to fostering a culture of reading, books as sources to advance human development and preserving history. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Activities of the festival will be held at selective venues, and ties with celebrating Africa Month during May with Africa Day on 25 May as the pinnacle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Charmaine Mrwebi, organiser, said in line with celebrating African authors, the renowned Dr Maboreng Maharaswa, who is a publisher and poet, as well as a thought leader, would be the guest speaker at the official opening on 9 May. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis festival is a way of giving back to the community and creating partnerships with stakeholders in and around my birth town. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIn addition, the festival will highlight the historical significance of Thaba Nchu as a tourist attraction destination and the role of the Tswana speaking community,\u201d said Mrwebi. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In her own right, Mrwebi is an accomplished publisher and author. She has published more than 100 books of different authors and authored more than 30 books, dedicated to promoting African literature and literacy through books written in indigenous Africa language, Tswana. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
She has performed at different events in South Africa and in the neighbouring countries of Botswana and Eswatini (Swaziland). <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mrwebi said the festival is a perfect platform for new and established publishers and authors to share their stories of success and knowledge. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Activities will include reading that is fun, the donation of books, as well as the bringing together professionals in the book industry. Work will also be done with teachers in relation to initiating enjoyable reading programmes for learners. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
