The tax evasion matter involving Morne Shardelow (42), Lobelo Paul Mmusi (48) and Thembisa Mmusi is set to continue on 5 July. The case was postponed after the trio appeared in the Bloemfontein Magistrates\u2019 Court on 9 May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The men are charged with contravention of the Tax Administration Act, after probing by the Hawks\u2019 Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Col. Zweli Mohobeleli, provincial spokesperson for the Hawks, said the matter was postponed on account of the men securing legal representation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
An investigation against the accused was launched after the South African Revenue Service (Sars) discovered apparent discrepancies in tax return submissions, resulting in a loss of more than R1,9 million. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cA preliminary probe by Sars uncovered the suspects\u2019 alleged false submission of tax returns and failure to declare taxes,\u201d said Mohobeleli. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said the alleged contravention of the Tax Administration Act took place between 2016 and 2018. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Summonses were served on 16 April after investigations by the Hawks\u2019 unit specialising in organised crime, economic crime, corruption and other serious crime. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
