The University of the Free State (UFS) men\u2019s team is bound to guard against complacency and improve the ability of scoring goals to win this year\u2019s Varsity Football trophy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Kovsie lads are yet to win the maiden cup of the tournament featuring eight universities in South Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The closest UFS attempt to lifting the elusive title was in 2021, when they lost 0 \u2013 4 to the University of Johannesburg in the final. The Kovsie lads started their campaign in this year\u2019s edition with a bang, recording a 3 \u2013 1 win over North West University (NWU) in an away outing on Thursday, 25 July. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The UFS boys were the biggest scorers in all matches played last Thursday of the tournament first round.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Inspired by the result, the Kovsie lads will be looking to continue the fine run when they meet Durban University of Technology (DUT) in a fixture taking place tomorrow in Bloemfontein. Kick-off is 17:00. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kovsies coach Tebogo Motsamai is hoping that his charges remain resolute in the challenge to win maiden trophy of the championship. He blame inconsistency for under achieving in the past editions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Another important fixture on the home front, will see Central University of Technology (CUT), clash tough opponents, the University of Pretoria (UP) at CUT Stadium. Kick-off is at 18:30 at CUT Stadium. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The host, led by Patrick Malokase as head coach, salvaged a point in the opening match when they played to a stalemate against DUT.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The CUT men mission is to revive their fortunes in the competition. The highlight was in 2016 when they lost 1 \u2013 2 to UP in a final played in Bloemfontein.
