N\u00e1 ‘n lang jaar is baie mense al by hul vakansie bestemmings, oor Suid-Afrika heen. Hier is ‘n bietjie goeie nuus vir Bloemfonteiners wat tevrede daarmee moet wees om met Jan Tuisbly se karretjie te ry – ‘n kort uitstappie uit die stad is moontlik.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Daar is heelwat toerisme-juwele in die Vrystaat wat minder bekend is en van hulle is net ‘n uur of ‘n ent verder van die stad af weg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Die Kleiner juwele bied bekostigbaarheid, natuurskoon, stilte en vriendelike plaaslike storievertellers aan die reisiger. <\/p>\n\n\n\nDit is nie nodig om die hele Desember in Bloemfontein te bly nie. Een van die juwele in die Vrystaat wat naby aan die hoofstad gele\u00eb is, is Philippolis. Die dorp in die Suid-Vrystaat, 170km suid van Bloemfontein, is net sowat 90 minute se ry met \u0149 voertuig.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Philippolis kan ook bereik word van Colesberg via die R717.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Die dorp is gestig in 1823 en is die oudste nedersetting in die provinsie. Die dorp se naam se oorsprong is te dank aan dr. John Philip van die Londense Sendinggenootskap wat \u0149 sendingstasie daar begin het. Naas Bloemfontein en Bethlehem, het Philippolis die meeste historiese monumente in die provinsie. So wat maak Philippolis \u0149 goeie bestemming?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Die ligging van Bloemfontein af is perfek vir \u0149 dagbesoek, of vir \u0149 naweek-wegbreek vir families aangesien hier iets is vir jonk en oud om te doen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Moet ook nie vergeet nie, jou viervoet-vriend is ook meestal orals welkom. Wat die bestemming uniek maak, is dat die dorp nog talle huise in die styl van Karoo-argitektuur het. Dit bied geleentheid vir pragtige foto’s. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Iets wat popul\u00ear onder reisigers is, is kerk-toerisme en Philippolis het hierdie mark omhels met baanbrekerswerk om die pragtige geskiedkundige NG kerk in Voortrekkerstraat toeganklik te maak aan reisigers. Loer in, leer meer oor die kerk en sy geskiedenis en bewonder die argitektuur. Die NG kerk is \u0149 nasionale gedenkwaardigheid wat sitplek vir 1 000 mense bied en is een van die moet-sien kerke in Suid-Afrika.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As jy opsoek is na stilte om te herlaai, is Philippolis net die plek. Hier kan jy jou motor parkeer en deur die dorp stap. Buiten die unieke NG kerk is daar ook restaurante in die dorp met kos wat met liefde eg aan die Karoo keurig voorberei. Restaurant-opsies sluit in die Karoo Artist Caf\u00e9 (oop daagliks van 08:00 tot 14:00, en 17:00 tot 21:00), waar alles van ontbyt tot aandete bedien word – onthou om \u0149 melkskommel hier te bestel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Emilys en Maidin Philippolis bied heerlike tee, koffie en koek sowel as ontbyt en middagetes. Nog ‘n ervaring in Philippolis is die Waterkloof-brouery 7km buite Philippolis op die R717 op pad na Colesberg. Hier kan gaste bier van gannabos en hul jenewer proe. Die program tydens Desember in Philippolis sluit in \u0149 Carols by Candlelight op Sondag 21 Desember by die stadsaal, \u0149 Kersdiens om 09:00 op 25 Desember by Waterkloof en \u0149 Kersete by die Philippolis Hotel en Maidin Philippolis by die Sir Laurens van der Post Gedenksentrum. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Op Woensdag 31 Desember is daar \u0149 Oujaar-jol by die Karoo Artist Caf\u00e9, en \u0149 potjiekoskompetisie om 13:00 by Pitstop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Die Transgariep-museum is oop van 09:00 tot 15:00 op weeksdae (behalwe vakansiedae). Die Waterkloof-brouery is oop van Maandae tot Saterdae, behalwe Kersdag. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Die meeste blyplekke in Philippolis het nog akkommodasie beskikbaar oor Kersfees en Nuwejaarsdag. Die Philippolis Groenhuis bied verskeie verblyf-opsies en is loopafstand van talle besienswaardighede. Families groot en klein kan hier geakkommodeer word, sowel as jou viervoet vriend. Hier kan ook lekker ontspan word by die swembad waar jy \u0149 egte Karoo-braai kan geniet.
