FOTO: Teboho Setena<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>David van Vuuren, die DA se kiesdistrikhoof in die Mangaung-metro, s\u00ea elke sterfte in die steengroef, is nie net &#8216;n tragedie vir die families en gemeenskap nie, maar wys die sistematiese gebreke wat die veiligheid van inwoners van Heidedal uit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Die vier komitees wat daar besoek afgel\u00ea het, is saamgestel uit die nasionale departemente van minerale en petroleumhulpbronne, polisie, bosbou, vissery en omgewingsake en water en sanitasie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Van Vuuren s\u00ea komitee wat die steengroef begin het, is &#8216;n welkome deurbraak vir die gemeenskap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>De Kock vra hoekom \u2019n gemeenskapsaktivis eers moes ingryp om nasionale aandag te kry, terwyl die ANC, wat hierdie metro en wyk lei, nie dieselfde kon reggekry nie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-die-patroon-is-duidelik-verantwoordelikheid-word-geskuif-skuld-word-rondgegooi-en-niemand-word-aanspreeklik-gehou-nie-dit-kan-nie-so-aangaan-nie-aanspreeklikheid-moet-afgedwing-word\">Die patroon is duidelik: verantwoordelikheid word geskuif, skuld word rondgegooi, en niemand word aanspreeklik gehou nie. Dit kan nie so aangaan nie. Aanspreeklikheid moet afgedwing word.<\/h4>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Volgens haar is daar ernstige vrae wat beantwoord moet word:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Is alle regulasies en prosedures nagekom tydens die rehabilitasie van die grond waar Twin City ontwikkel is?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Is daar waarheid in die beweerde dat besighede voedsel en ander afval in die steengroef stort?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Indien wel, hoekom word dit toegelaat?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Watter prosesse bestaan om besighede se afvalbestuur te monitor en af te dwing?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>En belangriker \u2014 wat het Mangaung tot dusver gedoen om die veiligheid van Heidedal-inwoners rondom hierdie steengroef te beskerm?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>De Kock s\u00ea hoewel die regering verantwoordelikheid moet neem, het die gemeenskap ook \u2019n belangrike rol. &#8220;As die Parlement daarin slaag om die omheining en rehabilitasie af te dwing, moet Heidedal-inwoners help om daardie infrastruktuur te beskerm &#8211; nie toelaat dat dit weer verwyder of gesteel word nie. Sekuriteitsbeamptes moet beskerm word, nie met klippe bestook word nie. Ouers moet altyd weet waar hul kinders is en verseker dat hulle nie by die steengroef is nie. Die water is misleidend: vlak trappe, wat dieper word, en skielik wegval in gevaarlike dieptes. Ouers moet hul kinders hieroor waarsku.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Ons voorstel is dat hierdie water getoets word. Sou dit gesuiwer kan word vir menslike gebruik, waarom nie &#8216;n pyplyn aanl\u00ea en die bron gebruik vir gemeenskappe wat daaruit kan baat nie?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Vandag is sekere beloftes gemaak.
