{"id":266240,"date":"2025-07-16T06:43:36","date_gmt":"2025-07-16T04:43:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/bloemnuus\/?p=266240"},"modified":"2026-03-31T16:28:07","modified_gmt":"2026-03-31T14:28:07","slug":"western-cape-dominates-2025-winter-national-school-sport-championships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/bloemnewsexpress\/western-cape-dominates-2025-winter-national-school-sport-championships\/","title":{"rendered":"Western Cape dominates 2025 Winter National School Sport championships"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Team Western Cape has once again proven their sporting excellence by claiming the overall championship title at the 2025 Winter National School Sport Championships, which concluded in Durban on Monday<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The province\u2019s young athletes delivered a powerhouse performance that saw them successfully defend their gold title, cementing Western Cape\u2019s position as South Africa\u2019s premier school sport destination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The sporting codes featured during the Winter Games included chess, football, hockey, rugby, volleyball, tennis and netball, as well as indigenous games such as jukskei and khokho.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-golden-performance-across-multiple-disciplines\">Golden performance across multiple disciplines<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Team Western Cape\u2019s medal haul included impressive victories across several sporting codes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Gold Medals:<\/strong> U15 Rugby (both boys and girls categories) &#8211; Netball (Mild Intellectual Disability category)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Bronze Medals:<\/strong> Girls\u2019 football &#8211; boys\u2019 football<br>&#8211; Deaf netball<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adding to their sporting success, the Western Cape support team was honoured with the prestigious Best Administration Award, recognising the exceptional organisation and management that underpins the province\u2019s sporting achievements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-celebrating-the-historic-win\">Celebrating the historic win<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Ricardo Mackenzie, MEC for Cultural Affairs and Sport, praised the dedication shown by all participants. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are incredibly proud of all our athletes who stepped up and who put in hours of training and preparation to ensure they successfully defended their gold title for another year.
