Oor ‘n week is die kunste in alle vorme op Bloemfontein se voorstoep.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kunstenaars, akteurs, skrywers en musikante stroom reeds na die stad vir die Vrystaat Kunstefees wat op Dinsdag 15 Julie in die stad begin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jannie du Toit is by die fees met ‘n vertoning wat hulde bring aan Nederlandse sangers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Volgens Jannie is De wals van de liefde<\/em> <\/em><\/strong>van <\/em>Nederlandse sanger, Toon Hermans, een van die aangrypendste liedjies wat hy nog in sy 55 jaar op die verhoog gesing het. Daarom het hy besluit om dit die titellied te maak van sy splinternuwe\u00a0Nederlandstalige program wat hy beplan om oor die land heen aan te bied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die liedjies is hoogtepunte uit die bloeitydperk van die 20ste eeuse Nederlandse kleinkuns. Die ryk erfenis van uitdrukkingskrag, wysheid en gevatheid van die Nederlandse taal soos vasgevang in tekste, akkoorde, ritmes en wysies – kortom in liedjies – is vir Jannie \u2018n oneindige bron van inspirasie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By Jannie se konserte is daar altyd weer versoeke vir die \u201cHollandse\u201d (eintlik natuurlik Nederlandstalige) liedjies van Brel, De Corte,\u00a0 Van Veen, Robert Long en Urbanus. In De Wals van Liefde<\/em> kry musiekliefhebbers die geleentheid om al die \u201ctoppers<\/em>\u201d, soos die Nederlanders dit noem, in een program te hoor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jannie word in sy nuwe program <\/em>op klavier en alt-saxofoon begelei deur die egpaar Marcel en Deryn Dednam, wat \u2018n paar jaar gelede pryswenners in Jannie se \u2018n Nuwe Baadjie-kompetisie was. Marcel is bekend as begeleier vir Natani\u00ebl, Anna Davel en Leon Gropp. Deryn is \u2013 soos Marcel \u2013 gereeld deel van onder andere Anna Davel se ensemble en hulle is albei musiekonderwysers in Pretoria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Nederlandstalige musiek het my loopbaan sonder twyfel ingrypend be\u00efnvloed, en danksy my belangstelling het daar ook wonderlike geleenthede op my pad gekom”, vertel Jannie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Toe \u201cluisterlied\u201d in 1979\u00a0 modewoord in Suid-Afrika geword het, het vriende soos Stephan Bouwer en Hennie Aucamp vertel dat dit \u2019n term is wat in Nederland gebruik word vir die soort liedjies wat Musiek en Liriek voorstaan. Die beste voorbeeld in Afrikaans is na my mening die oeuvre van Koos du Plessis – die Nederlanders gebruik ook die term \u201ckleinkunst\u201d om die bre\u00eb genre te beskryf. In hierdie tyd het die belangrikheid van aansluiting by die Nederlandse erfenis na vore gekom. Van 1979 af het belangstelling daarin toegeneem – veral sedert die middel 90\u2019s toe Herman van Veen, Stef Bos en andere in Suid-Afrika begin optree het. Die onverklaarbare gebrek aan kontak op daardie vlak vir die grootste deel van die twintigste eeu, is na my mening \u2018n verlies wat waarskynlik albei kulture \u2013 Afrikaans en di\u00e9 van die Lae Lande armer gelaat het.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jannie s\u00ea in Amsterdam het hy op \u2018n kroegstoeltjie by \u2019n platewinkel gaan sit en gevra dat die man vir hom \u201cluisterliedjes\u201d moet speel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Op die ou end het hy uitgekom by presies dit waarna ek gesoek het: \u2019n album wat in daardie jaar \u2013 1979 – uitgereik is, getitel \u201cDe wonderlijke avonturen van Herman van Veen\u201d. Ek val letterlik van daardie \u201cbar-kruk\u201d af toe ek hoor wat Van Veen kon doen in \u2018n taal wat so naby aan Afrikaans was dat ek by die eerste luister met sy duidelike diksie elke woord daarvan kon verstaan. Van Veen is waarskynlik die grootste talent wat die Nederlandse kabaretverhoog ooit opgelewer het. Ek het uiters begeesterd na Suid-Afrika toe teruggekom, vasberade om seker te maak dat Afrikaanse mense Herman van Veen se musiek sou hoor.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hy het sedert 1990 met Robert Long in kontak gekom en na heerlike kuiers deur die jare in Antwerpen het hulle goeie vriende geword. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Ons het gereeld saam \u201ceen hapje gegeten\u201d in Antwerpen, en\u00a0 Christa Steyn en ek so rondom 2004 saam met hom in Nederland gaan toer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“In Pretoria, waar my ma die matrone van \u2018n Nederlandse aftree-oord – De Meerpaal – was, het een van die inwoners \u2013 dr Strijdom – vroeg in 1980 vir my \u2018n langspeelplaat van Jules De Corte gegee toe sy van my opgewondenheid oor die Nederlandse kleinkuns hoor. Ek glo tot vandag dat daar geen beter liedjieskrywer in enige taal kan wees as hy nie. Di\u00e9 blinde pianis-sanger-digter-humoris-filosoof-taalman het rondom 3000 liedjies geskryf en was op elke terrein van sy vak \u2013 die liedkuns – superbegaafd. Hy het sy grootste \u201ctreffer\u201d – as kommentaar op die Tweede W\u00eareldoorlog en oorlog in die algemeen – in 1948 geskryf:\u00a0 \u201cIk zou weleens willen weten\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jules het in diens van \u2018n radiostasie daagliks liedjies oor sake van die dag geskryf waarmee hy elke moontlike onreg kaalkop gekonfronteer het, oor elke gebeurtenis met insig en humor geskryf het, en op \u2018n unieke manier oor die aardse bestaan nagedink het. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Hy is in Februarie 1996 oorlede, een maand nadat ek hom ontmoet het by sy huis in Helenaveen, Nederland. Ons het \u2018n dag lank onophoudelik gesels en van sy liedjies saam gesing. Hy het my ook begelei om \u201cDie Afrikaanse wiegeliedjie\u201d van CJ Langenhoven en Emiel Hullebroeck te sing \u2013 \u2018n lied wat hom baie na aan die hart gel\u00ea het. \u2018n Paar dae later het ek saam met hom na die ateljee van sy vriend Joop Timmer in die naburige dorpie Nuenen gegaan, waar ek saam met hom \u00a0sy beroemde \u201cIk zou weleens willen weten\u201d gesing het. Daar is \u2018n video-opname daarvan gemaak en tot my verstomming het ek later uitgevind dat die opname saam met my held op \u2018n postume DVD verskyn.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die begin van my fisiese musiek-kontak met die Lae Lande was in 1988 toe ons groep Blik en Snaar \u2013 op uitnodiging van Suid-Afrikaanse ambassades in Europa op reis gegaan het. In 1993 was Skadu’s teen die muur, oor die musiek van Koos du Plessis\u00a0 op verskeie plekke in Vlaandere \u2013 onder meer in Mechelen, Brugge, Brussels en Gent, en ook in die Kurhaus Hotel in Scheveningen. \u2018n Vlaming het na afloop van ons Koos Doep-konsert een aand in die vroe\u00eb 90s in Antwerpen vir my ges\u00ea: \u201cDat man had echt wat te zeggen!\u201d Ons kan dus nie alleen Nederlandse kleinkuns in Suid-Afrika bevorder nie \u2013 dit kan dit ook andersom gebeur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
