Inwoners in hul privaat hoedanigheid, as bydra tot ‘n woonbuurtvereniging en ook ondernemings in Bloemfontein bestee derduisende rande om die stad se haglike paaie in ‘n mate te herstel sodat motors nie beskadig word nie. Dit is egter ‘n stryd wat beslis nie met inwoners se harde werk en geld volhoubaar gedoen kan word nie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die meeste van die stad se teerpaaie moet oorgeteer word en grondpaaie oral om die stad kort dringend meer as net ‘n goeie skraap.
In sy stadsrede in Mei het die burgemeester van die Mangaung-metro, Gregory Nthatisi, ges\u00ea die stad het 1 600 km se paaie wat onderhou moet word. Hy s\u00ea dit sal ongeveer R7,5 miljard kos om die paaie te rehabiliteer en te herseel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hoewel daar ‘n paar miljoen rand begroot is vir herstelwerk aan paaie, soos die rehabilitasie van Zastronstraat, paaie in Bochabela en verkeersaansluitings, Bergman Square en in Thaba Nchu, word daar geen melding gemaak van groot projekte om belangrike toegangspaaie van die stad oor te doen nie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inwoners het gereeld skade aan motors, veral waar daar aan pype onder bestaande teerpaaie gewerk word en die teer uitgesny word om herstelwerk te doen.
Jan-Hendrik Cronje, DA-raadslid in Mangaung en wyksraadslid van Langenhovenpark, s\u00ea die DA het ‘n brief aan Nthatisi en die stadsbestuurder Sello More gerig oor die slaggatkrisis in Mangaung, wat inwoners en ondernemings dwing om self geld uit te haal om paaie te verbeter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cronje s\u00ea die slaggate in die stad skep daagliks ‘n gevaar vir motoriste, fietsryers en ook voetgangers terwyl dit voertuie beskadig en beleggings in die metro kniehalter.
“Dit is kommerwekkend dat inwoners en ondernemings private geld gebruik om slaggate te vul. Hoewel hierdie pogings prysenswaardig is, wys dit op ‘n algehele verval van basiese dienslewering in die metro.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hy s\u00ea die DA het waardering vir die gemeenskapsgedrewe inisiatiewe, maar dit is onaanvaarbaar dat belastingbetalers wat onder meer betaal vir die salarisse van munisipale amptenare, nog moet betaal vir die dienste, wat deur hierdie amptenare gelewer moet word ook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Ons vra nou vir dringende terugvoering oor dienslewering sowel as ‘n verslag van die geld wat beskikbaar is vir die herstel van slaggate, prestasie teikens en verantwoordelikheid van kontrakteurs.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cronje s\u00ea die DA gaan ook die saak met die stad se komitee van paaie en vervoer bespreek en ‘n oudit eis van al die slaggate wat in die metro aangemeld is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
