Met groot belangstelling kyk Petrus Fourie (14) en sy boetie Louis (13) hoe Heinrich Lategaan en Ezelle Erasmus met vuil hande vroetel om Mariaan aan die gang te kry.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lategaan, ‘n lid van die Bloemfontein Vereniging van Modelingenieurs, het ‘n modeltrein gekoop wat deur nog ‘n liefhebber gerestoureer is. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die afgelope vier weke bring hy en Erasmus di\u00e9 treintjie na die weeklikse ritte Sondae by Modensopark in Bayswater waar kinders die geleentheid kry om op van die treintjies te ry en van nader meer te leer oor hoe di\u00e9 enjins werk.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“In die week is ons musikante,” verduidelik Lategan oor hom en Erasmus se stokperdjie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Sondag is ons dag vir wegbreek en speel ons heerlik. Dis ‘n baie lekker stokperdjie wat jou wegneem van die alledaagse.”\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Di\u00e9 modeltreintjie met sy stoomenjin is ‘n wonderlike voorbeeld van hoe ‘n treintjie ‘n nuwe lewe kan kry en vir aanhangers groot pleiser kan verskaf.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Klublede het ‘n verskeidenheid stoom-, petrol en elektriese lokomotiewe wat hulle gereeld bring om op die spoorlyne by Modensopark te ry.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oorsprong<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die klub is in 1957 deur Harold Marshall Smith gestig en het oor die jare ‘n gewilde bymekaarkomplek vir liefhebbers van stoomenjins en modeltreintjies geword.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Smith was ‘n stigter van die Randse Vereniging van Modelingeneiurs en is in 1956 na Bloemfontein verplaas. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hy was teleurgesteld toe daar nie ‘n plaaslike vereniging was nie en het toe op 13 Julie 1957 saam met Goerge Rhodes-Harrison ‘n vergadering in die Cecil Hotel in Bloemfontein gehou.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dit was die begin van ‘n georganiseerde vereniging wat later ‘n tuiste in Rhynstraat gekry het.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Assie van Aswegen was vroe\u00ebr jare vir ongeveer 30 jaar lank ‘n lid en in ‘n stadium ook die voorsitter van die klub. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hy het die stad verlaat en het onlangs teruggekeer. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nou kuier hy weer Sondae lekker saam met die klublede.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Ek het destyds daarop aangedring dat ons ‘n klubhuis bou,” vertel hy. “Dit het nodig geraak om geriewe te h\u00ea wanneer ons so bymekaarkom,” het hy Sondag om die vleisbraaivuur ges\u00ea.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die jonger lede van die klub kom vra gereeld raad by oom Assie en hy help graag.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Klublede kom elke Sondag hier byeen en bied dan van 12:00 af die geleentheid vir die publiek om teen R10 per rit op van die treintjies te ry. Klublede bring hul eie treintjies saam om op die spore te loop of om die waentjies waarop besoekers ry, te trek.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tewie Fourie het Saterdag sy twee seuns gebring om te kom kyk hoe die treintjies werk. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lategaan het met groot geduld aan die twee verduidelik hoe die skaalmodel stoomtrein werk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tewie s\u00ea dit is jammer dat kinders in Suid-Afrika nie dikwels treine sien nie en dit is vir hom wonderlik dat hulle hier meer kan leer oor di\u00e9 enjins.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dit is egter nie net op Sondae waar kinders pret op die spoorlyn het nie. Skooluitstappies en partytjies word ook gereeld Vrydae en Saterdae op bespreking hier aangebied.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lategaan s\u00ea kinders geniet die treintjie-partytjies sommer baie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Benewens die Sondae-pretritte, bied die Bloemfonteinse Vereniging vir Modelingenieurs op Saterdag 14 Junie en Sondag 15 Junie van 11:00 tot 16:00 ‘n Winter-pretrit aan. Hou BloemNuus dop vir meer inligting oor di\u00e9 naweek se bedrywighede.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
